Discover Prime Land Based Trout, Redfish, Flounder Spots in Charleston, SC using Google Maps.
Just moved here or visiting Charleston, SC?
Understanding how to leverage Google Maps can be a game-changer when it comes to locating solid fishing spots for trout, redfish, and flounder along the banks of Charleston. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the process of using Google Maps effectively and highlight what to look for when scouting out the perfect spot to fish from land.
1. Satellite View: Switch to the satellite view mode on Google Maps to get a bird's eye perspective of the coastline, marshes, and waterways here in Charleston. This view can reveal hidden creeks, channels, and structures that are likely to hold fish.
2. Topographic Features: Pay attention to topographic features such as oyster beds, sandbars, drop-offs, and underwater structures. These areas are magnets for various fish species, including trout, redfish, and flounder. This will take some time. Make sure you note what the tide is doing on the map. Is it high/low/ or mid tide when the image was taken.
3. Water Access Points: Try to Identify public access points, piers, docks, and bridges in the area where you can legally fish from land. This is when things get grey haha. Just use some common sense. Google Maps can help you locate these spots and plan your fishing outing accordingly.
4. Currents and Tides: Use maps to study the flow of currents and tidal movements in the area. Fish are often more active during certain tidal phases, so understanding these patterns can increase your chances of a successful catch. I personally use two apps daily (Tides) for tides and (Windfinder) for wind and waves. Both with maps should help you plan out spots.
When scouting for trout, redfish, and flounder fishing spots in Charleston, keep an eye out for areas with a combination of structure, baitfish activity, and access to deeper waters. These elements are often key indicators of a productive fishing location. Sometimes even spots that look like they are hit often by others can still lend positive results. Just think, most people don’t know exactly what they are doing. Have confidence, learn as much as you can and hit these spots effectively and you’ll see the results.
I hope this helps get you guys in the right direction. Charleston can be tough from land due to limited access as well as the not so forgiving oyster beds and Pluff Mud!!!
